1920 – 1980
In the beginning
Fleeing the fascism rising in Italy and driven by hunger, Martino Rigaldo left his native village in the Italian Piedmont. He found refuge in Lausanne, in Suisse, where he settled at the Escaliers du Marché. He began restoring copper and pewter and all the household utensils of the time.
His son, Michel, worked in the family shop. The copper trade grew until the 1960s. Various pewter and bronze pieces expanded the range.
Then came the acquisition of antique pieces to be restored, displayed and resold.
1980 – 1990
The antique dealers’ fair
With a few other antique dealers, Michel founded the Vaud syndicate and the “Salon des Antiquaires de Lausanne”, becoming its first president. He held the position for ten years.
From the Rue de la Mercerie in Lausanne, where the shop occupied 300 square metres, the business moved to the prestigious setting of the Château d’Allaman.
His sons, Jean-Charles and François, followed suit and took part in the workshops in the company’s development. They took over the “restoration” department and moved to the Route de Prilly in Lausanne.
